Welcome to the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at the University of Hawai`i

The UH-CIBER seeks to expand the base of international research, teaching and outreach programs for the College of Business Administration, the Manoa campus, the University of Hawai`i system, and the state of Hawai`i, through strategic partnerships across campus and the state.

The UH CIBER aims to serve as a bridge to Asia for American businesses, educators and policy makers and to support the University of Hawai`i vision to be recognized as America’s foremost institution of higher education with an Asia-Pacific focus. The UH CIBER develops comprehensive programs to meet the needs of the new global environment. To achieve this objective, CIBER has set five broad program goals:

  1. National Resource: We draw on our extensive networks throughout the Asia Pacific region to develop educational and research programs that address the needs of U.S. businesses, academics and students; with the goal to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the Asia Pacific region.

  2. Foreign Language & Area Studies: We offer and develop new innovative interdisciplinary curricula. This combines language, area studies and business courses with the latest educational technologies to create a powerful academic program that is accessible to a broader range of students throughout the U.S.

  3. International Business Curriculum: We develop an agenda for research relevant to the needs of business operating throughout the Asia Pacific region. We disseminate this research using traditional and innovative methods to reach a broader audience.

  4. Business Outreach & Executive Programs: We provide leadership in the development of innovative international business training programs that are accessible to University of Hawai‘i students and students from AACSB schools throughout the U.S. In addition, we partner with key organizations in Hawai‘i and the region as we expand outreach to U.S. firms doing business in Asia.

  5. Faculty Development: We focus on faculty development programs that improve both the competence and capacity of faculty and institutions throughout the U.S.; with the goal to improve teaching and research of international business.
