National Resources for International Business Education
The UH
CIBER achieves the statutory purposes of the national CIBER program
through extensive curriculum offerings, faculty development programs,
thematic research projects and programmatic outreach; consonant
with the College's strategic thrust on international business with
an emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region. The College's Pacific
Asian Management Institute (PAMI) together with the UH CIBER
plays a key role in the implementation of the extensive plan of
work that supports international business as the College's strategic
priority.
The UH
CIBER works closely with the CBA, the School of Hawaiian, Asian
and Pacific Studies, the College of Languages, Linguistics and Literature,
the Colleges of Engineering, Tropical Agriculture and Social Sciences,
and the Schools of Law, Medicine, and Nursing to promote interdisciplinary
cooperation. The Center serves as a national resource with an Asia-Pacific
perspective through its many teaching and curriculum development
activities.
The UH
CIBER is a unit within the University and capitalizes on the UH
faculty's Asian experience and interest, the University Library's
Asia-Pacific collection, the diverse student body representation,
and the various study centers such as the East-West Center, the
Centers for Japanese, Korean and Chinese Studies and others. These
University resources make the Hawai'i CIBER a leading national resource
for linking the academic, private and public sectors of the Asia-Pacific
region with the United States as a whole and improves the teaching
of international business techniques and strategies. International
networks include the Pacific
Basin Economic Council (PBEC), the Asia
Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Pacific
Asian Consortium for International Business Education and Research
(PACIBER) and the Academy
of International Business (AIB). The UH CIBER draws on these
networks throughout the AP region, as well as its own formidable
resources, to provide a comprehensive base of resources for educational
institutions, businesses and organizations throughout the U.S. wishing
to do research and/or business in the region.
The following
projects describe the UH CIBER's expanded role to serve as a national
resource:
